wogan IMO all kids above a certain age (ie nearing the end of school) should be trained to handle a firearm. I mentioned on the Telegram Group I think the Police and Military should also be a career option. I never had the opportunity at school to learn how to shoot. I only discovered it afterwards. I liked it so much that I may have considered a career in the military had I learned it at school. However, One key thing though is that the military or police should also offer further education in the fields they need (civil, communication, engineering, trades etc). Kids that cannot afford Uni (like me) could go to the army, get trained as an engineer, serve the time to "pay off debt" and either stay on or go into the private sector. a Private sector in a free market will offer a higher salary and hence promote rotation so that the military do not become bloated. If an applicant does not cut it in the further education part, at least they still have military training and can stay on or join security companies etc.
All I am after is options for kids that cannot afford Uni. At the same time we are training future professionals, building a more educated and efficient military, training self defence, discipline etc. and to a degree giving kids the "free education" and kickstart many are lacking while also assisting with youth unemployment and thr "experience" problem graduates sit with.
