I personally think we shouldn't discount technology in any longer term strategy to make healthcare more affordable.
For the doctors on this thread, what are your views on connected care technology?
I ask this because I've gone through the Future Health Index as compiled by Phillips and have been looking at some of the work Oscar Health has done in America.
From what I can tell from the research and data, We have to have an e-strategy around healthcare.
*Electronic health records
- I honestly would want our most gifted data scientists in a room with healthcare professionals designing easy to use tools that our doctors can use that will free them up to do more.
- I would want that knowledge intergrated into how future doctors are taught at medical school.
- We would need to educate both doctors and patients on the benefits of connected care technology.
That said we still have issues around internet penetration and the costs of data for the majority of the population.
My personal opinion from a broad policy view is that really large gains in healthcare will need improvements in jobs, housing and sanitation.
I regularly visit Cape Town's informal settlements as I have friends who work there.
I suspect that healthcare costs will go down as people live in more sanitary conditions etc.
But yes, can other people please comment on connected care technologies.
Also interestingly if you are like me and aren't a healthcare professional and want a broad view of healthcare around the world check out the healthcare triage page on YouTube.
