We need to teach kids practical skills to cope as adults. I wish someone had taught me to do my taxes, or how to budget for expenses, or how to change a tyre. These are skills kids need to live and function in the real world. Instead of focussing on history (I do agree it is important to know the history, I dont agree that it should be a compulsory subject), why couldnt we introduce Life Skills which offers various lessons in how to do things in a realistic perspective. Could we perhaps ask kids what they want to do as adults, a chosen career etc and steer their education in that direction instead of a broad spectrum of BS that we never ever use. I work as a designer, and I have never used biology, geography or natural science in any way, yet I was forced to sit through endless hours of torture listening to a teacher drone on about bacteria.... Instead I would have preferred a more in depth version of Home EC, that taught me more skills to use practically in my chosen profession.
